What's being built

A South Florida hospital association newsletter dated Nov. 1, 2026, surveys healthcare construction in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Broward Health opened freestanding emergency departments in Sunrise and Lighthouse Point this summer. The newsletter says these sites offer round-the-clock emergency care in communities that previously had fewer options. Broward Health is also adding outpatient space. A new medical office building at Broward Health Medical Center will have 129 exam rooms, and a new facility at Broward Health North will add 75. Both are due in 2027.

In western Broward, Baptist Health's planned Sunrise hospital, where construction is underway, is a seven-story, 340,000-square-foot building expected to open in 2029.

In Palm Beach County, the newsletter says the Alan B. Miller Medical Center opened this year after a roughly $430 million investment. It has seven stories, 365,000 square feet and 156 private patient rooms. The newsletter also notes that Nicklaus Children's Hospital broke ground on a Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute in Miami-Dade. FIU and Baptist Health are building an academic medical center on FIU's main campus.

What it means for you

If you're weighing where to settle, how close you are to good care matters. Neighborhood emergency departments can shorten the trip in an urgent situation. New outpatient buildings can mean more specialist visits close to home. Several of these projects won't finish until 2027 to 2029, so look at what is open today. Then compare it with what is planned near the streets you're considering. Ask your REALTOR how far a home is from the nearest emergency room and from the specialists you see. Also ask what is under construction nearby. New medical buildings may bring more traffic and activity to a neighborhood, so check that before you commit. Keep in mind that this source is an industry newsletter, not an independent news report, so confirm details with each health system.
