You want easy access for you and guests, and often a lower HOA.
Gated communities offer a controlled entrance and a more private, self-contained feel, which many buyers value — usually with a higher HOA to staff and maintain it. Non-gated communities are easier to come and go from and for guests to reach, and often carry a lower HOA. It's a preference for privacy and access, and a line on your monthly budget — not a measure of one being "better."
